The Impact Fluid Solutions product development laboratory (StAR) in Cornwall, UK is committed to providing the highest quality technical support to its existing products and to the development of drilling, workover and completion fluid additives that improve the cost effectiveness of well construction activities while protecting the environment and well productivity. We are also actively researching opportunities for low ECD fluids, waste management and fluids for geothermal drilling.
The 2,500 sq. ft. R&D focused technology StAR facility is ISO 9001:2008 accredited and is equipped to allow the in-house study of:
- Rheology
- Fluid loss and invasion control (API, HPHT, PPA, fracture sealing and sand bed invasion)
- Formation damage (under static and dynamic conditions)
- Filter cake cleanup
- Lubricity
- Shale reactivity (swelling, dispersion, hardness and accretion)
- Particle Sizing
The Impact Fluid Solutions StAR facility utilizes specialized techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, x-ray diffraction and x-ray fluorescence which allow us to design and test fluids to meet a range of challenges, including fluids for:
- Shale inhibition
- Mechanical wellbore stability
- Ultra-low invasion
- Low formation damage
- Lost circulation prevention and cure, including wellbore strengthening
- Differential sticking
- HPHT
